Formula Explained

The math is a simple proportion expressed per 100 grams. If you know protein per serving, you can scale it up:

Protein per 100 g = (Protein per serving ÷ Serving size in g) × 100
Portion protein = (Protein per 100 g ÷ 100) × Portion weight in g

Both formulas are the same idea: find the protein in one gram, then multiply by how many grams you care about. The first version scales up to 100g so labels with different serving sizes can be compared fairly; the second scales down from 100g to your actual bowl. Example 1 — Lentil sprouts from a label. A bag says a 95 g serving contains 8.6 g of protein. Using the optional label fields: (8.6 ÷ 95) × 100 = 9.05 g per 100 g. Enter 150 g as your portion and you get (9.05 ÷ 100) × 150 = 13.6 g protein in the bowl.

Example 2 — Mung bean salad. Reference data for mung bean sprouts is 3.0 g per 100 g. If your salad uses 120 g of sprouts, the protein is (3.0 ÷ 100) × 120 = 3.6 g. That is small on its own, but it stacks up when you add tofu, edamame, or seeds.

Example 3 — Comparing two brands. Brand A lists 4 g protein per 85 g serving; Brand B lists 6 g per 110 g serving. Standardized to 100 g: Brand A = (4 ÷ 85) × 100 = 4.7 g, Brand B = (6 ÷ 110) × 100 = 5.5 g. Now the comparison is clear.
