The Formula Behind the Numbers
This calculator uses the standard MET method, which is the most common way to estimate energy expenditure for walking and other everyday activities. A MET, or metabolic equivalent, describes how many times more energy an activity requires compared with sitting quietly at rest.
Calories per minute = MET × 3.5 × weight in kg ÷ 200

The 3.5 in the formula represents the average resting oxygen consumption of 3.5 milliliters of oxygen per kilogram of body weight per minute.
