How It Works

The calculator uses nutrient reference values per 100 grams, based on data from USDA FoodData Central and typical commercial averages. For each chocolate type, we store the protein, carbohydrate, sugar, fat, and calorie content per 100 g. Your serving size is converted to grams if needed (1 oz = 28.3495 g), then every macronutrient is scaled linearly:

nutrient in serving = (serving grams ÷ 100) × per-100 g nutrient value

For example, cocoa powder has about 19.6 g protein per 100 g, so a 10 g serving delivers 10 ÷ 100 × 19.6 = 1.96 g protein.

Protein efficiency is computed as (protein per 100 g ÷ calories per 100 g) × 100, giving grams of protein per 100 kcal. This metric helps you judge how much protein you get for every calorie spent — useful when chocolate is competing with other snacks in your daily budget.
